Battery Registration and Coding Explained

Battery registration tells some vehicle monitoring systems that a replacement was installed; the exact procedure varies by vehicle.

Check the service procedure

Record the year, engine, battery position, chemistry and capacity, then consult the OEM service information.

Know when to ask a shop

If the service procedure specifies coding or scan-tool work, arrange that before disconnecting the battery. Do not infer the requirement from battery group alone.
