Find the manufacturing date
The last four DOT digits identify week and year of manufacture. Look on the sidewall; the complete code may appear on only one side.
Inspect condition
Check for cuts, bulges, cracking and uneven wear. Follow manufacturer and state requirements for replacement and ask a professional about damage.
Put the answer to work
Start with the actual vehicle label or installed component. Then use our vehicle directory and comparison tools to narrow the research. Any missing condition should be checked with the manufacturer or a qualified installer.

A tread gauge helps measure wear but does not replace an inspection for sidewall damage, aging or uneven wear.
