How to Read Your Door-Jamb Tire Label

The driver-door tire placard is the first place to check the vehicle’s original tire size and recommended cold pressure.

Find the label

Open the driver door and look at the door edge or pillar. Photograph the tire and loading information label so you can compare it with a product listing. Your owner’s manual may list additional approved options.

Read the exact notation

Record the complete front and rear sizes, including P or LT prefix, wheel diameter and any load or service description. A different tire size on the vehicle now may reflect an aftermarket wheel or earlier replacement.

Use the pressure correctly

Use the vehicle placard’s recommended cold PSI, not the maximum PSI molded on a tire sidewall. Check pressure when tires are cold and follow the owner’s manual for any special load conditions.

Put the answer to work

Start with the actual vehicle label or installed component. Then use our vehicle directory and comparison tools to narrow the research. Any missing condition should be checked with the manufacturer or a qualified installer.
